Terms you will meet in the documents, systems and scenarios.

Structured day

The timetable of unlock, meals, work, programs, recreation and lock-in that governs a prisoner's routine each day.

Dynamic security

The safety that comes from officers knowing prisoners, observing behaviour and gathering information, rather than from locks and cameras alone.

Count

A formal tally of every prisoner at set times of the day that must reconcile with the central monitoring station's figure before the centre moves on.

Muster

The gathering of prisoners or staff at a set place and time for a count, briefing or movement.

Classification

The security rating assigned to a prisoner (maximum, medium or minimum) that determines placement, supervision level and eligibility for activities.

Case plan

The documented agreement between an offender and their case manager setting goals, programs and reintegration steps for the sentence.

Criminogenic needs

The changeable factors, such as substance use, attitudes and associates, that contribute to a person's offending and are targeted by programs.

Contraband

Any item a prisoner is not permitted to have, or a permitted item in an unauthorised quantity or place.

Sally port

A secure vehicle airlock with two gates where only one gate is open at a time, used for vehicle entry, searching and escorts.

Separation order

A direction that two prisoners must not be housed, moved or placed together because of risk to either person.
