Defensive tactics reaccreditation, October block
Officers whose defensive tactics accreditation expires before 31 December must book into one of the October reaccreditation days at the Newcastle academy. Check your expiry in the Roster and Post Allocation system. Officers who are not current on the day of expiry will not be rostered to a custodial post until they requalify.

Unit 4 staggered unlock now in place
From today Unit 4 unlocks in two groups fifteen minutes apart with two officers present on the landing. This control follows the assault trend reviewed by the WHS committee and is recorded in the Hazard and Risk Register. Senior Officers must record any difficulty with the new routine on the handover template so it can be reviewed in October.

Inspector of Custodial Services visit
The Inspector of Custodial Services will conduct a routine inspection from 17 to 19 November. Inspectors will walk every unit, speak with staff and prisoners and review records. Managers must ensure registers, handovers and case plans are current. Staff are encouraged to speak openly with the inspection team.

Peer support program, new volunteers welcome
The peer support program has four new trained supporters across day and night shifts. If you have been involved in a difficult incident or are finding shift work hard, talk to a peer supporter or the WHS and Wellbeing Manager. Expressions of interest for the next peer support training in November close on 10 October.

Family day in the visits centre, 28 November
The annual family day will run in the visits centre on Saturday 28 November for minimum security prisoners with approved visitors. Offender Services is coordinating activities and the prisoner kitchen will provide catering. Officers interested in working the day, which is rostered as ordinary time, must register with Corporate Services by 30 October.
